Kathmandu – Mahesh Basnet, a leader of the CPN-UML, has accused Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah of “begging” for 100,000 from the CPN-UML. Basnet made this allegation through a Facebook post shortly after the city announced a decision to fine the UML party 100,000 on Friday.
Leader Basnet described Balen’s decision as one that can be viewed from both positive and negative perspectives. He remarked that a city police officer, nurtured under Balen’s administration, decided to impose a fine of 100,000 on the UML. Basnet noted, “This decision can be seen from two angles. Compared to the countless rallies and gatherings in Kathmandu, the UML’s event was so extraordinary that Balen had to ‘beg’ for 100,000 just for cleanup.”
He further added, “Balen seems to have such an intense ‘UML phobia’ that it resembles a legendary tale where a prince, destined to be attacked by a tiger, was locked in a room to keep him safe. Ironically, the prince ended up dying not from a real tiger, but from looking at the picture of one in a book. Similarly, Balen appears so paralyzed by fear of the UML that just seeing the UML seems enough to terrify him.”
